Braunche was a draper and, later, maltster of Abingdon. As early as 1566 he was a chief burgess who had already served as mayor. On 1 Mar. 1601 he gave his son Thomas his goods and chattels, reserving for himself only a small income and a chamber, and surrendering the right to make any bequests beyond those contained in the document; these were largely to his ‘surviving children and included a black gown and cloak to his ’unthrifty and disobedient son’ Lyonell. The will was proved 24 Apr. 1602.3Vis. Berks. (Harl. Soc. lvi), 13; PCC 24 Montague.
